Albany Great Danes win American East Championship in alternate shorts

The Great Danes from Albany have punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season, and the fourth time in the last nine years today with a win the American East Championship game.

Albany took on the home team, Stony Brook, and the Danes busted out a new look to bring home the championship.  Shocking everyone in the Seawolves crowd.  The Danes were a seven-point underdog heading into this one.  Look good, feel good, play good.  That good.

Albany wore a new pair of shorts that was purple in the front, yellow in the back.  Basically the mullet of basketball shorts if you ask me.

The Danes are produced by Nike.  Their usual shorts are a solid color.  Purple on the road, whites at home.

At first glance, it is a pretty cool look.  The striping on the side is odd though.  I would have rather seen a straight line on the side, rather than what they trotted out.  Make the lines similar to what we saw with the Sacramento Kings back in the late 90’s with their half and half jerseys.

I’m always a big fan of schools busting out a surprise look in a big game.  Especially in small conferences like the America East.  You know programs like Albany aren’t getting alternate uniforms all the time like the blue-bloods of the sport, so you know for a fact these kids were pumped.

Congrats to the Great Danes for punching their ticket to the big dance.
